More than 570 species of birds have been watched and recorded at Kapawi during your entire journey inside and around the ecolodge area. Here you will read about the most representative ones, which will be waiting for you in the best Amazon ecolodge!

Achuars believe that spirits guide them into harmony and peaceful relationships between themselves and the creatures living in the rainforest. This wisdom comes from Arutam, a spiritual guide which is the Great Spirit of the Forest. Arutam has allowed humans to live with animals as long as they do it in peace, and birds are the guardians of the skies in this paradise far from modern complications.

There are many species of birds in the area: from the most exotic ones, to the most common ones. From birds that are endangered, to birds that overpopulate the skies!

List of birds in Kapawi, day by day

If you are planning to travel to the Amazon Rainforest on a birding tour, there’s an 8-day tour which is perfect for you. Days 2, 3 and 4 will almost exclusively be reserved for bird watching, as the rest of the days are scheduled for many different activities that include rafting and native ceremonies with our local community, the Achuars.

This fact doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to watch birds during the rest of your trip, but in order to assure you a great trip, our tours include many entertaining activities to enjoy every day you will stay with us.

Itinerary:

Day 1 is the day to arrive to the lodge, so your birding chances will be short as you may want to rest from the trip and just watch nature at its best from your room window. However, day 2 could give you the luck to observe the following birds:

  • Hoatzin
  • Great Egret
  • Neotropical Cormorant
  • Cocoi Heron
  • Aninga
  • Speckled Chacalaca

Day 3 is the greatest day to have a 30-minute motorboat ride to visit the Claylicks, which is one of the best birding attractions we have to entertain our guests at Kapawi.  It will be great for these parrots and macaws –among other species- to be found:

  • Chestnut-Fronted Macaw
  • Cobalt-Winged Parakeet
  • Yellow-Crowned Amazon Parrot

Day 4 is a day of choices: you can pick either going again to the Claylick or having a different bird-watching activity, where you will enjoy the company of some of the abovementioned species.

The rest of the days, as we said before, is accurately planned by our expert tourism guides to take you to a new world, different from your daily-routine one, that will make you feel so relaxed that you will ask for more days to stay! Kapawi is recreation and nature, all in one place. Give us your hand and let us guide you!
